One of GCC’s AV distributor, NMK Electronics, collaborated with Shure MEA & Dubai Music to organise a workshop tailored for vocalists in the region titled, Vocal Mic Lab. The mic lab was conducted at In5 Media which attracted around 30+ musicians from all genres.

“I am a singer and even though I have been singing for a long time on-stage, I have learnt a lot of new things and have also understood a few things that I was doing wrong,” commented a guest.

Barry Kassab from Shure MEA carried out the workshop as a combination of hands-on and theoretical bits covering polar patterns, microphone and noise handling, wired and wireless microphones expectations and discussion on various microphone usages.

Carl from renown local funk jam band, Carl and Reda Mafia was invited to share real-life experiences with the audience. The workshop concluded with one-on-one freestyle sessions with the guests to understand and resolve their microphone queries.

Another guest added: “As a performer I have learned a lot, what really impressed me is the demonstration of how sound check is done in a professional environment and how it effects the artist’s performance. It was a really good and entertaining experience.”

The mic lab was one of many initiatives by NMK & Shure to serve and promote the local music scene in the region.
