Shreya Ghoshal Live in Johannesburg

The Melody Queen and Queen of Bollywood in India, Shreya Ghoshal, took to the stage at Emperor’s Palace, Johannesburg on 20th August.

Rental company Bass Mechanics supplied the full technical solution which included sound, AV and lighting, the predominantly Robe lighting rig controlled with a grandMA ultra-light.

“One of the huge advantages of working on a rig with mostly one brand makes programming and designing simpler and easier to implement during a short period of time,” commented Sushil Patidar, Owner and Technical Director of Bass Mechanics.

“Time is always a challenge and as a lighting designer, we only have a certain amount of it to ensure all pre-planning is complete. The grandMA console, which ran through Nexus DMX Artnet, helped greatly with both implementing our vision and utilising the rig to its full potential,” said Ravi Paima, lighting designer at the event.

The lighting system included 12 Robe LEDBeam 100, 12 Robe Pointes, 12 Robe LEDWash 600 and 12 Robe ColorSpot 700 AT. In addition, there were eight Phillips Selecon SPX 15-35 zoom Profiles and 2 Le Maitre MVS Hazers. “Robe fixtures, being one of the best brands in the world, have always been a pleasure to work with,” added Paima. “And never underestimate the power of the little Robe LEDBeam 100! These are super powerful and add to the ‘stun factor’ of a lighting rig. This being said, the lovely beam of the Robe Pointe placed strategically in a V design, added another level to the experience of the show.”

The use of rich colours was imperative to Paima. “It was as important to us as beam work, and we used colour very carefully to work on the emotion of the audience. The Robe LEDWash 600 certainly had the impact we envisioned when creating the design.”

Shreya Ghoshal is able to sing in most languages and her great sense of humour and musical talent, has resulted in a fan base throughout the world. South Africa is no exception. She was accompanied on stage by popular Indian vocalist, Kinjal Chattopadhyay, with support performances by the stars of Sony Entertainment TV, Shaheer Sheikh and Kushal Tandon.
